STRESS
KILLS
How many times
have you heard it? Stress accounts for most of the time missed from
work or school. It causes or contributes to stomach ailments, anxiety,
heart trouble and headaches. Ever notice that when you're stressed
healthy eating, sleep and exercise go out the window? Fast food
and TV watching all take the place of healthful activities. This
leaves you open to colds, flu and anything else that's "going
around".
Hints to help:
- Stop watching
TV (especially news) right before bed. It contributes to anxiety
by taking all the negativity directly with you to sleep. Try this
for a week. Anxiety is usually dramatically reduced.
- Put Vanilla
scent in your office or home environment. In a recent study it
was discovered to reduce anxiety and tension by up to 80%.
- Pack a lunch.
Instead of relying on what you can grab in a hurry, bring something
healthful with you. It'll give you more time since you won't be
in line waiting for (possibly) less than good for you food. This
could also help with improved digestion.
- Go for a
walk at lunchtime or after work. 15 minutes can do wonders!
- Spend a few
minutes just breathing. Take in big deep breaths. Breathing tends
to get too shallow when we're under pressure and breathing is
the body's way of relaxing.
- Get a massage.
